Happy Holidays

Greetings!

It's been a wonderful year for Phasionlab and I have to say that there is so much more to come. We participated in phasionable workshops, gave a wealth of knowledge to soon-to-be brides about wedding day fashion, completed makeovers and closet transformations and in doing so have been able to meet some wonderful people along the way.

2012 has so much in store. Be on the look out for more information regarding our upcoming production "EnHergy 4 RAINN" benefitting The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network(RAINN) taking place in March 2012, it's going to be an event you don't wanna miss!!

From My Family to Yours, I'd like to wish everyone a Healthy and Happy Holiday Season!!

Must-Have Monday

Hey there Lab Doll & Gents!

Hope you all had a productive weekend. I've decided to do a list of "Must-Haves", once a week on Monday's. The list will be compiled of things/items that I have come across over the week-end prior and will offer tips and suggestions as well as info on "where to buy" the items that will be listed.

Today, I'd like to highlight Cuddl Duds, they are microwear thermals for women. I don't know of many people who prefer to be cold, but these thermals are VERY comfortable if I may say so myself. They can be worn under just about ANY garment and come in a variety of colors, and options such as ribbed, v-neck & crew neck shirts, long legged bottoms, and as well as activewear for those that jog/run in inclement weather . Cuddl Duds are thin and very soft, hence the name "Cuddle" and here's the kicker...they are reasonably priced and will keep you warm.
I found them at a local store here in Pittsburgh-Tuesday Morning. They can also be purchased from Kohl's, J.C Pennys and online at cuddlduds.com

I highly recommend this product as I purchased several tops and bottoms for myself over the weekend and will be gifting cuddl duds to some of my family & friends.

If you are one to shop for "great Phasion finds" please email us and we'll review them and possibly blog about it for one of our upcoming "Must-Have Monday" segments

"Afraid of the Dark"

This lovely fall weather has me wanting to paint my nails darker than the norm. Off to the nail salon I went for my bi-weekly manicure. This time around I chose a shade to grace my nail bed, that I probably wouldn't have normally done & I'm glad I did, because I absolutely LOVE IT!!

I've come to adore the OPI Collection, just as much as any other gal & now I look for the deep toned colors that only OPI can create. I still wanted to "shine" a little, but I couldn't decide on a palette, there were so many options to choose from. Neutrals work very well at any time of year, but there were some other colors that weren't so neutral at all & I wanted out of the box LOL!! I chose Ski teal we drop and Simmer & shimmer and I've gotten several compliments on how they both work well together. It was thee perfect combo.

Just wanted to share with you gals, its ok to step outside of your comfort zone. Just be You in whatever you do. What works for me, may not work for you, but the key is that you make an attempt and try!

Hope you guys enjoyed the post!

Open Invitation!!

Its almost 1am and I am listening to that late 90's R&B "Groove Lovin" Music while working in The Lab. Yeah I know it's 2011 & I should embrace the sound of today's hottest artist right?! Not entirely, I really miss music that embraces real life situations regarding LOVE =)
I've been following Tyrese Gibson, you know the Singer, Actor, & Songwriter on Twitter and he will be returning to music, "His 1st & ONLY Love" on 11-1-11 with the Global release of a long awaited album entitled "Open Invitation" released on his OWN Label Voltron Records and I personally can't wait until it hits iTunes.

"My everything was put into this album. It was YOU who inspired me to get back in the studio and do it again."~Tyrese

For one of the two first singles, he teamed up with non other than his other first love from the movie Baby Boy Ms. Taraji P. Henson for "Stay"

Check out the Official Video for Tyrese "Stay" Feat. Taraji P. Henson here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51mR-z80X_o

If the sound of "Stay" is a glimpse of what "Open Invitation" is going to sound like, 11-1-11 can't come quick enough!!
Thanks for listening to US, Your Fans Tyrese and making the decision to Give us an "Open Invitation" to Your Passion and 1st Love Music in the many forms that will be released with this album. Thank You!

Fashion Fever Review

On Weds 9/21 Style and Steel Presented: Fashion Fever at The Savoy Pgh. It was an evening scheduled to set the tone for Pittsburgh Fashion week 2011. There were designer previews, Jewelry vendors (Ciao Bella & Traci Lynn) and lots of great music. The atmosphere was made for networking and partying, and there was plenty going on.

I loved the fashion individuality that was shown throughout the night.
But Here's a few Lab Pulse Points to keep in mind:

*Not everyone's style is the same and when it's worn with confidence it looks even better.

*It's ok to mix it up...Just know what goes with what and if ever in doubt I'm just a phone call or an email away =)

* Simplicity works best, b/c sometimes Less says So Much More!!

* In doing what you do remember to Always Be YOU!!

If you missed Fashion Fever it's ok, #PghFashionWeek 2011 will take place beginning on 9/26 and will run through 10/2. It's a series of shows you don't want to miss!! Stay Tuned to Phasionlab as we will be out & about as Pittsburgh Fashion Blooms!! For more information about the upcoming week, check out www.Pittsburghfashionweek.com

Hey there Guys & Gals!!
Welcome Back to The Lab...Wanted to write up a quick post.

Over the years technology has become something
that we have become acclimated to, almost a need within itself. There's the cell phone, the computer/Internet, smart phones and now tablets. It's the feeling of having the world at your fingertips 24/7!
Over the last week or so I have been able to watch Live Runway Shows during #NYFW(New York Fashion Week), support some causes that are dear to me #RAINN.Org and connect with Celebrities and Dear Friends via twitter. I was also able to "Follow" some of Fashions Elite Industry Insiders on twitter, to find out what Spring 2012 has in store. I was able to do all of that via my iPhone 4, and I LOVED Every minute of it! As the weeks continue there will be Celebrations of Fashion Weeks all across the country. Stay tuned for Phasionlab updates as #PghFashionweek2011 will be kicking off on 9/26-10/02 and continue to check back in with us for Phasionable Events and chic post to come!! Take advantage of the technology that is available to us , but in the process of utilizing it be sure not to abuse it <3

What a Man, YES He is...

This blog is for the men in the lab who can't help but be debonair in their selection of attire, for the man who knows when to dress it up, play it down and make any style his OWN!

There are six basic garments, and seven if you choose to relax from time to time in your casual attire.  We have compiled a listing that should be in every man's wardrobe.  If you arent aware, it's ok.  Step into the Lab and have a seat because were gonna give you what you need so that you can continue to look even more handsome and stylish from day-to-day.

*Suit-Double breasted, Classic, Modern or Tailored...Make it pop with your accessories (Cufflinks) and It doesn't have to be one color-black or blue

*Sports Coat- Dress it up or down it is a staple that becomes an investment!  Some establishments make them mandatory & being turned away because of your attire, well that just shouldn't happen.

*Trousers-Tailored or brought off the rack, they should be comfortable and functional.  The details in a pair of slacks are endless.

*Shirts-They come in an array of fabrics, & colors with details that can ultimately set the tone for your appearance.

*Tuxedo-A cut all it's own! Complete with a variety of button and fabric options to choose from.
When selecting a Tux be sure to select a fabric that will maintain it's Shape and one that allows your body to "breathe"
S/n your pant should never look like a regular trouser, cuffs do not belong!

*Neckwear-There are so many choices for neckwear when it comes to this essential. The fabrics, patterns, & color selections are somewhat never-ending, when in doubt, let your neckwear be the focal point and take center stage.
NeckTie Listing: Bow Tie, Necktie, Cravat, Ascot, Seven-Fold Tie, Scarf, Braces(suspenders) and the Pocket Square

Taking the time to acquire any or all of the essential wardrobe needs will allow you to express your personality through your own personal style.  It's not the wardrobe that makes the man, but in building up his wardrobe, he builds his confidence as well.  Hope you guys enjoyed this post,  I had a really great time doing the research behind it =)

Season's Change!

As the seasons begin to change, Phasionlab has a few tips for what's ahead during this rainy week.

*First thing's 1st...there is no need for your pants to be "soggy" from dragging in the rain!! Galoshes come in an amazing array of different colors, & patterns.  It is ok to purchase a pair to wear over your pants.  You actually have a choice to take them off while in the office or wear them all day b/c with such a great selection it's ok =)

*Just b/c it is raining doesn't mean you need to pull out your winter attire! Knee boots in 70 degree weather is a no no & flip flops in the rain, your simply asking to be seen at your nearest emergency room dept. for a twisted/broken ankle.

*Trench Coats are fab & chic, if you don't own one, go get one! It will become a staple piece in your closet as it gets a little colder.  It covers your clothes to a degree, can be easily be removed if/when the rain stops & the weather warms up, and depending on the fabric, it can be easy to clean.

These are just a few tips to help build your wardrobe.  Here In The Lab were not going to tell you what you should/shouldn't wear or purchase during these rainy days, but keep in mind that our suggestions are made to HELP YOU in your selection of Phasionable attire, so that you can continue to keep it simple, chic & blunder free =)

Workshops That Enlighten

I had the opportunity to visit a group of young ladies at The Pittsburgh Job Corp program to facilitate a Fashion Workshop. The Women's Program Coordinator Rosalyn and myself had a wonderful time, we had a "best dressed" contest, and talked about "Falling into Phasion". Discussing the upcoming Fall Trends was exciting and the young ladies left with knowledge knowing how to make each upcoming trend work for their own personal style.

It is always a pleasure to visit Pittsburgh Job Corp and as i've said before, I believe that as women in the workplace, it is imperative that our younger women do not have to think or rely on what they see, but on what they are taught. I wish all of the ladies nothing but a Phasionable, & Successful Future Ahead!

Until next time,

Choose Phasion, not Fads!!

Fall Shoe Preview

Phasionlab's Fall shoe picks are below hope you dolls enjoy!!

I just received my Fall 2011 VS Shoe Catalog in the mail & I am IN LOVE!!!!
They tempt me every season to purchase without planning as if I actually have more room for shoes =)

This season it's all about the bootie, platforms (pumps/boots) & of course the thigh high boot. They used to be so taboo but if worn the right way, thigh high boots can be a great investment to your wardrobe.

I have to give props where they are due & Jessica Simpson is dominating the catalog so far this season, her team did a Great Job on designing her fall collection, I can't wait to see what's in store for all of us VS Shoe Fans, as the season has just begun.

"The Perfect Fit"

This post is dedicated to "The Perfect Fit" & well worth the read.

As a little girl we've all experienced the excitement of getting our first bra or "training bra" and over the years having a good bra is like knowing how good it feels to breathe lol, well maybe not that extreme but having on the correct size bra should just BE! Ladies I know you've seen it or experienced it and frankly it's time we do without the spillage, the bulging and the uneasy feeling of the incorrect bra size.

When you are without the perfect fit it shows in your presentation. It can be uncomfortable, irritating, and down right well Imperfect. Knowing what size bra you wear & what is comfortable should be on a woman's priority list of things to do, and Phasionlab is gonna give you dolls the run down of how to make the best out of finding "The Perfect Fit"

*First things first, wear something that you can slip on & off, i.e a sundress or a camisole. You need to be able to see the difference Right Away!!

*Next, be open to trying on all types of bra's from Demi (low cut) to Full Coverage because you never know what's going to fit you best until you do.

*Last but not least be patient, there are so many choices, it's like buying your first bra all over again, it's exciting but now your fully aware of what your carrying around =)

Here's the kicker, not every intimate apparel store has the correct training or the know-how to properly fit a woman for "The Perfect Fit". So where should you go to be properly fitted for the correct sized bra? I chose to do a little testing in the lab over the weekend and visited two very popular intimate apparel stores, Nordstroms intimate dept. and Victoria's Secret.

I went to Nordstroms first, where the Sales Associate was very knowledgable, helpful and understanding of my needs right away. She sized me, brought me a variety of bra's to choose from and made suggestions that were BEST for me, doing so while personally assisting me the entire way. Her recommendations weren't based on how cute or expensive the selection was. It was a superb customer service experience, that was private, and made me think about how my next encounter would be.

Victoria's Secret was my next trial, its a woman's intimate apparel heaven. I must admit that I walked in with a bias expectation of how my experience in the world known store would be. Partially based off of my experience in Nordstroms & my own personal retail exp in sales. I walked in, it was a little busy for it to be 6 pm during a week day. Although I was unacknowledged, I still walked up to a sales associate & asked if I could be fitted. She then told me to head straight to the dressing room where I would find another associate who would help me. There was little privacy, I was measured in the middle of the dressing room floor, was told what my bra size was & was offered to try on a bra in my "correct size" and left to myself. I was checked on periodically, was asked how I was doing while screaming how much I liked one cut over the other through the dressing room door. When I inquired about going a cup higher, with hesitation she said "sure" and gave me another bra in the next size up. Not once did she actually ask to look at the fit, but solely relied on me the customer who "wasn't aware" of my correct size, to know if I had finally had the perfect fit or not. I'm sorry for thinking that this is what I made a visit to your store for. I left VS knowing that I would be returning to Nordstroms to make my purchase for "My Perfect Fit" =)

Out of both experiences, I have to say that I would sacrifice Great Service over Sales ANYDAY, and while your experience may differ from my own, please take the time to go be properly fit ladies. Your wardrobe both current & in the future will thank you for doing so, as your presentation will appear to be "Perfectly Fit", and free of any blemishes that are hidden beneath the surface.

Until Next time,
Choose Phasion, Not Fads!!

My Day at the Mall :-)

Entertaining, Exciting & Fun would be the choice words to describe my day on Sat Aug 13, 2011. I was able to hang out at The Mall at Robinson for their "Shake Up Your Style" Fall Fashion Show & Model Search. There were musical guest, a back to school fashion show & more fashion excitement during the model search...Hey I couldn't let the other girls have all the fun, so I tried out too.

The Host for the day Eric kept the crowd involved by giving away prizes and had the crowd laughing with his infamous "Zoolander" walk and pose. So All is fair in Phasion right?!? Prior to the search starting, Eric asked Myoshi Anderson the Founder of Pgh Fashion Week to "Show Everybody how it's done", she was cheered on by the crowd and immediately showed everyone why she has been able to be successful, with one "Strut" down the catwalk.

There were about 135 contestants in all that turned out for the Model Call and the panel of judges Aundrea Jackson, LaMont Jones, and Jessica Connor, whom were all impressive in their own right, had the task of selecting a handful of prospects that could be participants in the upcoming Pittsburgh Fashion Week, beginning on 9/26!

Hope you guys enjoy the pics, I shot tons of them, this is just a small portion of what I took, for more info about Pittsburgh's 2nd Annual Fashion Week log onto www.pittsburghfashionweek.com.

The Three P's of Phasion

one day while doing my weekly research I came across something, and although some would take credit for the cleverness of what's to be shared it makes perfectly good common sense. This is something that I have shared during workshops and as well as with my clients when consulting...

"The Three P's of Phasion"

*Personal Taste
*Presence
*Personality

Whatever your personal taste, let it exhibit Quality and Style. Well let's define style, style is about your confidence level within because it's not always about what your wearing that makes you stylish!

When you walk into a room, let your presence command attention, let your posture be in line, and your overall appearance be positive. Never command attention in a "thirsty"/negative manner, all the while making your presence known for the wrong reasons. Trust me it's not cute, mature, or in any way appealing to anyone.

Your personality is something else that helps make your style your OWN, Never let your ensemble outshine your personality, it should help balance it, not overpower it. If you aren't comfortable in what you are wearing, it will show...in the things that you do and the way that you act. Be True to who you are even while selecting your attire, it doesn't have to scream Trend, it just needs to be an extension of who you are.

Hope this helps & Thanks for stopping by the lab, be sure to check back in as often as you wish, we have some Great things brewing that you don't want to miss!

Until next time!
"Choose Phasion, not Fads"-Kia

Traditional Shopping v.s Online Shopping

Shopping via The Internet v.s The Mall

For some the decision to shop via the net v.s going to the mall is simple...Convenience!! I've heard women/men say just about anything but for the majority its the crowd in the mall that discourages "traditional" shopping. I mean c'mon it's much easier to just order it & have it sent to your door step right? Sure it is but are you aware of your body type & the way that it's going to look on YOU and not the model whose already wearing it?!

There are things that you should keep in mind when making any purchase in-store, from the net or even via a catalogue.

*Stick with a designer/companies with whom you've purchased from before, repeat shopping for variety is good...it means you like the quality/cut/fit of what you've already purchased.

*Be sure to know your measurements..."guesstimating" about your size is gonna cost you time & in some cases money.

*ordering from the net or a catalogue for seasonal attire i.e swimwear...PLEASE be sure to allow yourself plenty of time for any possible returns (bathing suits that sag in any way aren't cute or sexy)
besides wardrobe malfunctions can happen at anytime.

*shopping In-store allows you to try on merchandise unlike purchasing via the net.  Take the time to do so-Muffin tops, and bootie-cracks are not OK

These are just a few tips to keep you on your toes but as with anything else
Some things will always remain true no matter how you choose to shop...Just because it is made in your size does not mean that it will look appropriate for you, know what works for YOU, not what you are emotionally attached to because "you've gotta have it"

Until Next Time,

Phasion Chose Me!!

She loves Me, She loves me Not!!

I wish I could tell you how much I admire your versatility, your strong attention to detail, and the way you make me feel when I slip into my favorite pair of heels...You have been apart of my life since I could appreciate quality v.s quantity.  It doesn't take much to keep me satisfied, classics always last, while fads of your family tend to pass.

Constantly questioned because I choose not to look like the rest, I've been able to stay away from the pack because my passion for your attention consumes me...I will continue to make you proud, for you have given me what I need to make an impression on those that are caught up in colors of the heart...Always relying on the window to guide them, and being in a state of shock when someone else looks like them...i'm unsure of when they will realize that you offer a change at least 4 times a year, and quit looking for an approval, instead of embracing you for what you are... Phasion Please Love Me 4 Ever!!

Lab Talk:"To & Fro"

Does your closet frustrate you? Do you feel like you can never find "Anything" to wear?

Well it shouldn't, and I'm sure there's plenty of things in your closet that you haven't worn, or items that you tend to look over. Your closet needs to be functional in order for you to be stress-free, and Phasionlab is here to help!

They say knowing is 1/2 the battle so here's a couple of pointers to think about...

*First things first, your gonna need time to be able to go through your closet, it's a process, and one that can't be rushed.

*Waste not, want not...Knowing what you have & what you can still fit is key. Don't cling/hold on to something in hopes that one day you'll wear it again, Let it Go!

*Last but certainly not least...Organize, Organize, Organize! It is very important that you don't just throw your clothes back into disarray, but that you hang your clothes back into your closet so that your using less time & making more Phasionable choices.

Hope this helps someone to overcome their daily stress factor.

Luxury for Less

Hey There & Welcome back to the Lab!!

I've got some great news to share. According To Vogue Uk, H&M has done it again.
They are known for their collaborations
With some of the industries most fabulous designers, Karl Lagerfeld,
Jimmy Choo, Lanvin & coming this November 2011 Versace will be
Creating a Women's, Men's & a houseware line for the
Companies 200+ stores.

Here's the catch...you've got to get to the stores when the
Collection makes it debut. Why you ask, previous experiences has taught me, If you snooze, you loose! And if having designer labels in your closet, that
won't break the bank is how you like to shop...Well let's just say that the Fall can't come quick enough.

I'll keep you updated on the progress as I hear of it & will be sure to follow-up with you guys with pics & details...

Until Next Time,

Office Duty

Anyone who works in an office building, knows that during the summer months it tends to be a little challenging to dress for both the office & the outside temps. Well I am here to let you know that it's ok to pack your winter clothes away and still be warm in/outside of the office.

Your summer wardrobe doesn't have to include the latest & greatest trends, it just needs to have a few simple pieces that will carry you through the season, all while being chic, cute & comfortable.

*cardigan-to cover your arms

*sheath dress/pencil skirt-both in breathable fabrics

*Cami/Tank/Tees-soft & easily worn under seasonal blazers

*Chino's-to replace the jeans you are so dying to wear :-)

*dress sandals, along w/a pair of cute flats-quick change for a walk

S/n: Please no turtlenecks lol!!

There is no need to be "overheated" in clothes that are supposed to be packed away, when you have the chance to take a break from heavier fabrics and enjoy the sun...

Until next time,

Summer Inspiration

It's been raining for days here in The Burgh & it doesn't seem like it has any intention of letting up, so I HAD to relocate, I decided to browse the net to find some summer inspiration for work & play :-)

When I think of Summer Attire, I think cool, flirty, sleek, and managable fabrics, now we can't forget that it has to be versatile for the workaholics who choose to play after work :-)

2011 is calling for a BOLD attitude, to go along with the selection of Color Choices, and the Accessories that are available to compliment our ensembles.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics, they are from the Austrailian Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 Show
